Valley Stream Teacher Resource Center

Mini-Grant Guidelines
2008-2009

The Valley Stream Teacher Center is pleased to once again announce this opportunity for you to develop and share projects or explore areas of educational interest. In an effort to encourage projects that address the NY State Learning Standards and Assessments, proposals dealing with these topics will be given priority.

PURPOSE

The mini-grant program is designed to help staff members achieve the implementation of an idea, theme or other classroom based project. Mini-grants of up to $500 may be submitted to enable staff members to develop a special classroom or school project that enriches the educational experience of teachers and their students. (If project involves other teachers, applicants must include their names with signatures showing support of project.)

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

The intent of this program is to support your creative efforts in your classroom but is not to substitute for district responsibilities (i.e. mini-grants should not be used to replace regular classroom materials and supplies).

Requests for equipment will be considered. However, they will be given lower priority. Property rights to such equipment shall be retained by the Valley Stream Teacher Center.

Recipients are required to participate in "Lights-On for Education" in April.
Also, a completed evaluation form and synopsis of your project will be due in June.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

  • Innovativeness (new project)
  • Clarity of plans and procedure
  • Impact on student learning
  • Provision for sharing with other teachers
  • Stated relationship to NY State Learning Standards (i.e. content standards, performance assessment, and/or teaching strategies which enable ALL students to meet standards)
